Published:  Thu 4 May 2023

IWF launched their 2022 Annual Report on Tuesday 25 April 2023 hosted by TikTok. The report shows that, in 2022, a record-breaking 51,369 of the webpages it took action to remove or block from the internet contained Category A child sexual abuse material.

This is the most severe kind of imagery and can include the worst kinds of sexual abuse, including the rape of children, babies, and even newborns, as well as acts including bestiality, or sadism.

Watch the official launch below where IWF Chair, Andrew Puddephatt, introduced Communications Director, Emma Hardy, who presented the key facts and trends from the report. Following the presentation was an insightful discussion from a panel of experts including law enforcement, the tech industry and Ofcom.

Panellists were:

  • Theo Bertram: TikTok's Vice President, Public Policy, Europe
  • Sarah Blight: Principal - Online Safety Policy Team at Ofcom
  • Tom Farrell: Chief Operating Officer for SafeToNet
  • Wendy Hart: Deputy Director of Child Sexual Abuse in the Threat Leadership Command at the National Crime Agency (NCA)
