Dot London, the city’s top-level domain name, has signed up to Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) Membership to provide a trusted and secure service to help protect people from exposure to child sexual abuse images online.

As a member of the IWF, the Dot London team will be able to monitor URLs and content to help block and report any sign of child sexual abuse, ensuring that the IWF can take down illegal imagery as soon as possible.

With over 55,000 registered domain names from around the globe, interest in Dot London is strong. Some of the capital’s most recognisable brands and business organisations have seized the opportunity to create a digital link with the city, such as the Edwardian Group London, the London Symphony Orchestra, Sketch restaurant and Big Yellow Self Storage.

Julie Chappell, spokesperson for Dot London, said: “The IWF has a fantastic reputation for safeguarding the internet, which is crucial for our status as a top-level domain name. By signing up to be a Member of IWF we’re ensuring that we protect the London brand and all visitors to our associated websites from being exposed to images of child sexual abuse.”

Susie Hargreaves, IWF CEO, said: “This is a very exciting time for Dot London having been launched just last year. Joining IWF membership is a declaration of Dot London’s shared vision with the IWF in eliminating child sexual abuse content online. We have successfully reduced the world’s known child sexual abuse content hosted in the UK to less than 1% since 2003 and this has only been possible with the help of our UK Members, such as Dot London."
