Roblox joins the IWF
Roblox, the popular online entertainment platform for kids and teens has joined the Internet Watch Foundation’s (IWF) battle against online child sexual abuse imagery.
With the largest user-generated online game creation platform that includes more than 40 million games created by a creator community of over four million people, Roblox has been rated a top online entertainment platform for audiences under the age of 18, based on both average monthly visits and time spent, according to comScore.
The IWF works globally with internet companies and gaming platforms who are taking the lead in showing the world that they are doing the right thing, by standing up for children and taking the positive step of joining IWF’s growing membership to fight online child sexual abuse imagery.
Every month, more than 70 million people around the world use the digital worlds on the Roblox platform. The free-to-play platform can be accessed on PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Amazon Devices, and Xbox One. Gaming adventures are available from any device and players can interact with their friends wherever they are in the world. As part of their commitment to this work, the gaming giant will be taking IWF’s unique services to help protect their platform.
Susie Hargreaves OBE, IWF CEO, said: “It’s great news that Roblox has joined the IWF and will be taking our services to help protect its platform and players from online images and videos of child sexual abuse.”
“There is strength in numbers and with 139 key internet organisations now signed up to the IWF, we’re a growing frontline force. Our Members include giants of the internet world as well as smaller filtering companies. What unites them all is a passion to do the right thing and help us eliminate these horrific illegal images of the sexual abuse of children.”
“We’re delighted to welcome Roblox, with its huge following of young players - and we look forward to helping the platform defend its services against online child sexual abuse imagery and the misery and suffering it represents.”
Remy Malan, Vice President, Care and Safety and Chief Privacy Officer at Roblox, said: “We’re proud to be the newest member of the IWF. We fully support the IWF's mission to make the web a safer place for everyone, especially children and young adults. Roblox is dedicated to providing both our players as well as parents with the resources necessary to ensure the safest experience possible on our platform. We look forward to working with the IWF and other member companies to play an active role in helping keep children safe on the internet.”
