Number of AI videos of child sexual abuse increases sharply

Published:  Fri 11 Jul 2025

New data from the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) from the first six months of 2025 shows a sharp increase in AI-generated child sexual abuse images. The nonprofit organization, which is dedicated to finding and removing child sexual abuse material online, has received 400 percent more reports of such websites compared to the same period in 2024. Between January 1 and June 30, 2025, AI images of child sexual abuse were detected on 210 sites.

In addition, the number of AI videos depicting child sexual abuse has also increased: 1,286 videos were found in the first half of the year, compared to just two in the previous year. IWF analysts emphasize that the quality of the AI videos is so good that they are almost indistinguishable from real footage.
