In 2022 alone, we removed over 255,000 webpages containing abhorrent images or videos of children being sexually abused. Each webpage might have contained a hundred or a thousand pictures. That’s equivalent to millions of criminal images removed from the open web.
We never forget that in each one of these images is a real child. We can’t fully understand their suffering, the horror that these youngsters endure. But we do know that the criminals who abuse them are ruthless. They share images of babies, toddlers, teenagers being raped and tortured online. Their depravity knows no bounds.
We also know that survivors of childhood abuse are tormented knowing that perpetrators can circulate a record of their suffering online. Our job is to give survivors some peace of mind. Our job is to work to remove criminal pictures from the web.

Each working day our analysts hunt down, stop and remove disturbing imagery of children being sexually abused. Investing in these extraordinary people and their wellbeing, means that even more criminal images can be assessed and taken down; more survivors will be protected from the torment of knowing a record of their suffering is being shared online; and more perpetrators will have their efforts to circulate the suffering blocked.

We see Ana a lot. Every day at least. Sometimes twice a day. She’s been groomed into taking part in sexual activities from a very young age with people who we think are her relatives.
We first see her aged seven. We stop seeing her when she’s 11. Her long, tangled blond hair, green eyes and small frame being forced into things she shouldn’t know how to do. Most often she is with another little girl and an older boy. We guess they might be her brother and sister, but we don’t know for sure. They’re not playing. Not in the sense that children should be free to play. Sometimes we can see a man as well. Is this her father?
She’s in a home. We see her on an old stained sofa, sitting on threadbare carpets surrounded by peeling wallpaper. Ana has been made to pose provocatively and take part in several sexual activities. She’s also raped. Ana’s treatment is degrading and extremely cruel. Unfortunately, this is reality for the children we see in pictures and recordings in our Hotline.
