Help Stop Online Child Sexual Abuse as Head of Hotline at IWF

The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) is seeking an exceptional individual to step into the senior management role of Head of Hotline. This is a unique opportunity to oversee the delivery and steer the strategic and operational direction of our critical Hotline Department, playing a pivotal role in our mission to eliminate child sexual abuse imagery online.

A Vital Role in Protecting Children Online

This isn't just a job; it's a chance to be at the forefront of online child protection. As Head of Hotline, you will:

  • Drive Real-World Impact: Develop and implement departmental strategy in close collaboration with the Hotline Director, directly contributing to the IWF's vital mission.
  • Champion Innovation: Drive innovation in Hotline services and coordinate IT project delivery to enhance our capabilities.
  • Lead and Inspire: Manage our dedicated Hotline Manager and, through them, the wider analyst and Taskforce teams, fostering a culture of excellence and resilience.
  • Prioritise People: Promote best-practice staff welfare, a crucial aspect of supporting teams exposed to sensitive material.
  • Be a Global Voice: Represent the IWF by engaging with UK and international law enforcement, key external stakeholders and the media. You'll also support our international network by deputising for the Hotline Director at meetings when needed. 

What You'll Be Doing

Reporting to the Hotline Director, you'll be responsible for the robust delivery of our Hotline services. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing all Hotline systems and processes, ensuring compliance with IWF policies, procedures and the law.
  • Ensuring quality assurance compliance across all Hotline functions.
  • Achieving Hotline Business Plan objectives.
  • Leading the training, supervision and development of our highly skilled Hotline and Taskforce teams.
  • Encouraging and supporting first-class welfare provision and safeguarding for Hotline staff.
  • Managing public complaints and appeal decisions.
  • Providing witness statements and attending court to give evidence when required.

Are You the Leader We're Looking For?

We need a seasoned professional with:

  • Proven experience in managing a diverse team operating in a sensitive or challenging environment at a senior level.
  • Essential supervisory, management, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong presentational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • A solid legal understanding of IWF's remit.
  • The ability to work constructively with a wide range of individuals and organisations, both internally and externally.
  • A proactive approach, using your initiative to generate ideas and improve performance.
  • The capability to command respect and cooperation from colleagues.
  • A team-focused, tactful and diplomatic approach.
  • While not essential, a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law, Cybersecurity) or experience dealing with law enforcement would be advantageous.

Important Note: This role will require the employee to view child sexual abuse imagery. Mandatory counselling is provided.
