The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) has welcomed CheckFirst as its newest Member, joining the fight to eradicate child sexual abuse images and videos from the internet.

CheckFirst is a company committed to protecting the online information landscape from online harms through tailored products and services. Through its experience in mapping algorithmic recommender systems, expertise in research on digital threats and policy around digital regulation, CheckFirst aims to promote a fair and secure digital landscape for all users.

Research into online harms often involves encountering illegal and sensitive material. By partnering with IWF, CheckFirst is reinforcing its commitment to conducting this work ethically and responsibly, ensuring the dignity of victims and the safety of its staff.

As part of the partnership, CheckFirst will deploy IWFs cutting-edge tools and services to help identify and block child sexual abuse images and videos. These tools will enable CheckFirst to carry out its research in a legally compliant and secure environment, while contributing to the wider mission of creating a safer internet for children and adults alike.

Guillaume Kuster, CEO of CheckFirst, said:
As researchers dedicated to analysing online harms, we strive to adopt the highest safety standards and abide by industry norms, especially when dealing with illegal and sensitive material pertaining to children. We at CheckFirst believe that a partnership with IWF will only strengthen our shared commitment towards a safer internet, given IWFs technology-led mission to prevent online child sexual abuse material. Deploying IWFs tools and implementing our thorough review process is a step towards ensuring that we conduct our research as ethically and responsibly as possible.”

Kerry Smith, Internet Watch Foundation CEO said: We work with the tech community around the world to tackle the spread of child sexual abuse material online. It is not something we could do alone, and partnerships with organisations like CheckFirst boost our mission to make the internet a safer space for all. We are delighted to have them on board as Members and look forward to a successful collaboration.”
