Question: Can you give some general advice on Chat Room safety and Safe Surfing?

Question: I would like to make a report about improper activity I have witnessed or experienced in a Chat room, can I do this through the IWF?
 
Answer: The IWF generally do not take reports from the public on chat room abuse. You may make your report to the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre who will take your report and act upon the information you give.
 
Question: I would like to make a report about improper activity I have witnessed or experienced on an Instant Messaging service, can I do this through the IWF?
 
Answer: The IWF generally do not take reports from the public on Instant Messaging abuse. You may make your report to the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre who will take your report and act upon the information you give.
 
Question: If I have issues about a chat room, where should I go?
 
Answer: Our advice is to contact the ISP of the site where the chat room is hosted. The ISP may then look at the matter under their ‘acceptable use policy’. If an individual is being stalked, harassed or groomed, you should contact your local police. See also our FAQ on Internet Stalking for more information.
