'Best Practice' overview and Policy Recommendations

In conjunction with Mark Gracey, Internet Content Regulation, THUS plc and former Industry Vice Chair of the IWF Board, we have developed a 'Best Practice' Guide which we we hope will be a useful reference document for IT and HR professionals in a range of organisations.

This guide is intended to be a list of 'do's' and 'don't's' and we hope will give guidance on how to develop policies and procedures most suitable for your organisation and in accordance with the Sexual Offences Act 2003 and the Memorandum of Understanding.

The guide also includes some suggestions for inclusion in company Acceptable Internet Use Policies.

This section also includes a link to the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA)  which covers investigating e-crime effectively and developing a trust-led partnership between the Unit and all sectors of industry which conduct any part of their business by electronic means.

Scotland
Scotland is not covered by the Memorandum of Understanding to section 46 of The Sexual Offences Act 2003.

The National Hi-Tec Crime Unit for Scotland have told the IWF that if a company in Scotland suspect they have indecent images of children deliberately stored on their company hardware/network to contact their local police who will advise them and attend to copy the data.

The Protection of Children and Prevention of Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2005 updated the Civic Government Act 1982 for Scotland and a précis is available here.

If you have a Spam email advertising what you suspect is a child abuse website or a staff member is inadvertently exposed to a suspect website, report the URL to the IWF and delete the email.
