Regulatory Roles in Scotland
Changing the Role of the Regulators in Scotland:  What's next for services, markets and consumers?

Tuesday 18 September 2007
Hilton Grosvenor Hotel, Edinburgh

Following the passing of the Legislative and Regulatory Reform Act 2006 in the House of Commons there is a new consensus on the need to reduce the costs and burden of regulation.
In Scotland, most regulators which affect Scotland's services are UK wide but since the advent of the Scottish Parliament, it has been asked: how can we bring about change in the regulatory framework to reflect Scottish interests?

This conference will discuss both Scottish and UK regulatory structures and the potential for new approaches to delivering effective public interest protection, better services and greater accountability.

This conference provides the opportunity to examine what is currently happening with regards to regulation in the UK, to explore the situation in Scotland from an industry, watchdog and consumer perspective, and consider some potential solutions to Scottish problems for the future regulation of both private and public services in Scotland.

Keynote speakers:
Professor Lorne Crerar, Chair of Independent Review of Scruitiny of Public Services
Lord Neil Davidson QC, Advocate Genera for Scotland
