IWF Awareness Day

The aim of IWF Awareness Day is to reach out to the UK’s vast online population to publicise the existence of our ‘Hotline’ so all UK internet users know what to do if they inadvertently stumble across online images of children being sexually abused and let them know that IWF is dedicated to getting potentially illegal online content removed.
 
For one day each year our members and stakeholders dedicate space for our adverts to indicate their ongoing support of our work.
 
IWF Awareness Day 2008 - 24 October 2008
IWF is holding its second IWF Awareness Day on 24 October 2008. We are hoping for a large online presence on this day and are asking our 80+ members (internet service providers, mobile operators, search providers, content service providers and others) and our other stakeholders (children’s charities, NGOs and government departments) to prominently feature IWF advertising and information on their websites and other communications channels.
 
Ways members and stakeholders can raise the profile of the IWF to their customers, staff and website visitors:

IWF members should have received a CD which contains all the contents needed for this and this can also be downloaded from the Secure Members Area.
 
2007 IWF Awareness Day
Our industry members and stakeholders provided fantastic support of the first IWF Awareness Day on 24 October 2007 by running adverts on their websites and intranets and other communications channels, and by emailing their customers and staff with information about our work.
 
The media coverage we received for the day was also very impressive with almost 300 articles, including 70 radio and TV broadcast features – regional, national and international. Our website statistics show we had a 320% increase in visitors on Awareness Day and the day after.
 
We would not have been able to generate such impressive interest and awareness of our work without the help of our members and stakeholders and we are very grateful for their support.
