Library Campaign

March 2006 - April 2006

Target audience:
The UK public via Chief Librarians of all public library headquarters in UK, including central libraries and major branches (regional and district libraries), academic and special libraries, departments of librarianship, key national and regional agencies, professional organisations and other relevant bodies, University and other higher education libraries, national libraries, selected government and special libraries (industrial and commercial), departments of librarianship and information science.

Message:
To promote awareness of IWF to the general public.

Why this campaign is important:
Libraries are popular information points for the public and as there are also internet stations in many libraries, they are ideal locations from which to disseminate the IWF’s message.

Method:
We sent out IWF posters, leaflets and cards to over 3000 libraries in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Central libraries were asked to arrange distribution to smaller libraries within their region and to order extra materials to this end.

The packages were accompanied where possible by a letter in support from a relevant authority, for example, David Lammy MP, Minister for Culture wrote a letter to go out to all English libraries and Elaine Fulton, Director of the Scottish Library and Information Council and CILIP in Scotland wrote a letter for libraries in Scotland.

Result:
We have received over 50 requests for additional materials from librarians and the campaign has been well received. We continue to receive requests and are happy to send material to any interested groups, organisations or individuals.
