Highlights of 2006
January
Amanda Jordan OBE began her role as the new independent IWF Board Chair.
We presented at the Ministry of Defence Security Conference and to a Chinese delegation. This was the first of a number of presentations to Chinese delegations in 2006.
We held our first briefing day of 2006 for members at our offices just outside Cambridge.
February
We presented at the Safer Internet Day conference and participated in the first global 'blogathon' and generated a great deal of media coverage on that day.
March
We launched our 2005 Annual Report at a reception in the House of Commons. The reception was kindly hosted by Andrew Lansley MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Health. The Rt. Hon. Alun Michael MP, Minister of State for Industry and the Regions spoke at the event. MPs and Peers joined representatives from the police, internet and mobile industries and the charity and financial sectors to receive the 2005 Annual Report.
May
We welcomed visitors from the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre to our offices. This was the first of a number of visits to the IWF by CEOP staff during 2006.
June
We welcomed a new Relationship Coordinator to the IWF team.
We welcomed the Assistant Director of the Cybercrime Division of the National Police Agency of Japan and the Vice President and the Senior Analyst of the Japanese Internet Association to our offices.
We presented at the Capita Child Protection and the Internet Conference 2006, the Northern Grid For Learning Conferences on e-safety and to a South Korean delegation.
July
We were delighted to welcome Home Office Minister Vernon Coaker MP and David Howarth MP, to our offices.
We launched our half yearly report which led to a vast amount of media exposure.
August
We hosted a visit for representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry at our offices.
September
We welcomed a new Internet Content Analyst to the ‘hotline’ team.
We received the results of a governance review we commissioned to enable us to consider a new structure for Board and industry relationships. The ever-increasing numbers and diversity of our members has led us to begin the process of adapting to an industry forum mechanism to ensure our consultation procedures are even more robust and inclusive of wider stakeholder views.
We were pleased to welcome representatives from INHOPE to our offices.
October
We presented at 7Safe’s Information Security Network Conference and at Nominet’s UK Internet Governance stakeholder event: "The road to Athens" and to a Chinese Governmental delegation visiting the UK.
October/November
We marked our ten year anniversary with a series of conferences around the country, each featuring a parliamentary host, a television broadcaster as panel host, and a panel of experts. The series of conferences was launched at an event at Westminster’s Central Hall and we were delighted to welcome Home Office Minister, Vernon Coaker MP, who gave the keynote address to nearly 200 delegates and journalists. The conferences ran in conjunction with our first major public-facing awareness campaign.
November
We welcomed representatives from the Australian hotline, NetAlert to our offices.
December
Report Management System 2 (RMS2) was installed – This is a major improvement on the previous Report Management System and will allow our analysts to collate more details from the reports they are dealing with and to analyse the data more intelligently.
We hosted a visit for representatives from the South Korean hotline, Kiscom, at our offices.
We presented at the E2BN E-Safety conferences and the ISSA Security conference.
We held our second briefing day of 2006 for members.
