IWF Conclude Tenth Anniversary Road Show Campaign

The IWF completed its Tenth Anniversary Road Show campaign with conferences in Edinburgh, Belfast and Cardiff during October and November, 2007.

The events were a great success with nearly 500 delegates registering to attend, representing industry, child protection, education, law enforcement, IT professions, central and local Government and charities.

The Edinburgh conference was hosted by Marlyn Glen, MSP for North East Scotland, and member of the Scottish All Party Group on Children and Young People; Dr Alasdair McDonnell MP for Belfast South and Deputy Leader of the Social Democratic and Labour Party hosted the Belfast conference and the Cardiff conference was hosted by John Smith, MP for the Vale of Glamorgan.

Panel discussions were chaired by well known local broadcasters with important contributions from a team of expert panellists and pertinent questions from delegates. Alex Hastie, Presenter, Talk 107 Radio chaired the Edinburgh debate; Stephen Nolan, Presenter, BBC 5 Live and BBC Northern Ireland, chaired the Belfast debate and Sara Edwards, Broadcaster, chaired the discussion in Cardiff.

The valuable networking parts of the events brought together key groups and, we hope, facilitated new discourse and cooperation in the fight against online abuse and the sexual exploitation of children.

The conferences were part of an integrated campaign, involving PR and advertising in each region which ensured IWF awareness was raised amongst the public as well as those professionals and stakeholders who attended conferences.

This marks the end of our Road Show and we are delighted to have had the opportunity to present our work, success and challenges to so many around the UK and beyond. If you or your organisation are interested in receiving a briefing from the IWF or would like to find out more about our work but were unable to attend one of the recent conferences, please email us at info@iwf.org.uk.

We would like to express our gratitude to the delegates who attended the conferences, the speakers, the panellists and venues - Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor, Radisson SAS Belfast and Copthorne Hotel Cardiff - for providing the conference rooms free of charge.
