ISPA Awards - Winner of IWF Award announced

The ISPAs awards ceremony took place in London on 24th February 2005.
Amongst the awards was the The Internet Watch Foundation Award for Developments in Online Safety, which this year, was kindly sponsored by Juniper Networks.
The finalists for the award were as follows:
- Barnardo's for their 'Just One Click' campaign
- BT for their 'Cleanfeed' URL blocking intiative
- Children's Charities Coalition for Internet Safety (CHIS) for their Digital Manifesto
- Mobile Operators – specifically Orange, O2, T-Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Vodafone and 3 for their Code of Practice
- Vodafone for 'Content Control'

BT were announced as the winner.
An ISPA spokesperson said, “BT received this award for its URL blocking initiative Cleanfeed which was designed and implemented to block access to websites confirmed to contain images of child abuse.”

Nick Truman, Head of Internet Security, BT Retail, who was there to accept the award said: “BT is very proud to receive this coveted award for the implementation of its illegal URL blacklisting initiative. We would like to take this opportunity to remind all ISPs that we are still willing to share the technology free.”
Other award categories included; Best Search Facility, Best Broadband Provider (in a number of sub-categories), Best Portal, Best Hosting Provider & Best ISP (in more than one category), Internet Hero & Internet Villian.
IWF members Wandaoo, Kingston Communications, Google & Telewest all received awards.
ISPA are a founding member of the IWF and were recently recognised themselves with an 'Achievements & Champions' award given to them by the IWF at a recent lunch reception at the House of Commons. Click here for more information.
