IWF in place to support mobile online content services
The new ‘What’s Hot?’ service from T-Mobile demonstrates the increasing development of image based content, promotions and services available via mobile phones.
As part of a range of Euro 2004 multi-media services T-Mobile are offering their customers, football fans will be able to send their best football pictures to the new service 'What's Hot?' and be in for a chance to win a trip to the Final of UEFA EURO 2004™ in Lisbon.
To take part, you submit a picture of you in your football kit, of you and your friends cheering on your team or anything else related to football, as a Picture Message with the word “Footie” in the text, to the number 468.
T-Mobile Customers can then view the pictures and vote for their favourites on the What's Hot WAP-site by selecting Picture Messaging from the t-zones main menu. The picture with the highest number of votes will win 2 tickets to the final match on 4th July 2004, including travel and accommodation.
The Internet Watch Foundation partnership with all the UK mobile operators illustrates the responsibility and commitment of the mobile industry in preventing the availability and exchange of criminal content and images via their facilities.
The IWF is delighted to have T-Mobile as one of their funding members and to have contributed to the mobile operators ‘Code of Practice’ paper regarding best practice guidelines around mobile internet content. This code has been designed to outline the relevant safeguards and measures available to deal with any potential abuse of services and instances of illegal images.
The specially designed IWF WAP site enables consumers to make a report to our internet hotline, should they be inadvertently exposed to any potentially illegal content via a mobile online service.

If we received notification of any such images being displayed via an online mobile service, we would notify the relevant hosting agent or operator and implement our ‘notice and take down’ mechanism, as we do with fixed internet and ISPs.

“ In light of some of the recent media attention surrounding concerns over images and content accessible via current and future 3G mobile phones, we are very pleased to be able to demonstrate how the IWF is working in partnership with our mobile industry members. All these members have all taken a pro-active and conscientious approach in preparing for the possibility of illegal material being accessed or created via new mobile features, services and handsets. ”
