We would like to offer our congratulations to Grid Club for winning the award this year.
GridClub, which is also a BAFTA award winner, is a collaborative initiative between Channel 4 and Intuitive Media and is the official Department of Education and Skills (DfES) website for 7 - 11 year old children. It is also supported by Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS) on behalf of the Scottish Executive Education Department (SEED) in Scotland and is the approved Key Stage 2 website for pupils in Northern Ireland.. The site offers a wide range of activities, puzzles and games designed to make learning fun and can easily be used at home as well as at school to help with homework and school projects using a huge variety of interactive and visually exciting tools.
GridClub has been designed to engage children between the ages of 7-11 using cartoons and on-line games as well as encouraging their own hobbies and interests outside school. The Clubs section of the site is in a protected area offering a safe place for children to communicate with each other, share interests and have fun whilst learning with other GridClub members.
Peter Robbins, Chief Executive at the Internet Watch Foundation said, “This award is well-deserved by the GridClub team. It is an impressive site and it is evident that considerable creativity and thought has gone into the design of an engaging, interactive portal for children and young people. Particularly, the advice on safety is provided in the context of concrete situations rather than as an abstract list of rules. Hence, the games and advice closely fit the particular situations in which children may find themselves facing uncertainties or perhaps taking risks.”
We would also like to express our thanks to THUS/Demon, an IWF member, for sponsoring this award.
