Executive position within INHOPE for IWF Manager
Frank Glen, Operations Manager at the IWF has been appointed as Executive Member without Portfolio at the Association of Internet Hotline Providers (INHOPE).
The role will involve responsibility for:
- International Alliances
- Supervision of the development of the INHOPE white paper
- Supervision of the Working group Strategy
- Supervision and management of performance indicator compliance and communication
The IWF are delighted to see a key member of staff nominated for this position. In April 2004 the EU announced a proposal for a 50 million Euro project to create hotlines where members of the public can report illegal internet content.
Fay MacDonald, Communications Co-ordinator, IWF said:
"Such an EU initiative demonstrates that the UK's IWF, the only authorised internet hotline in the UK, founded in 1996, is in fact, ahead of its time in developing procedures to deal with illegal content online.
INHOPE founded officially in 1999 is integral in co-ordinating interaction between hotline organisations in Europe and beyond"
INHOPE has 20 member hotlines in 18 countries worldwide tackling illegal content online.
The key functions of the Association are:
- Exchange expertise
- Support new hotlines
- Exchange reports
- Interface with [relevant] initiatives outside the EU
- Educate and inform policy makers, particularly at the international level

The establishment of effective common procedures for receiving and processing reports
The IWF, one of the most established internet hotlines and a founder of INHOPE, has been working with the Association for several years and Frank Glen has been instrumental in developing this relationship and sharing his knowledge and experience. INHOPE members are regular visitors to the IWF offices in Cambridge.
Frank has been with the IWF for three years. He spent 10 years in the Royal Air Force, predominantly in IT roles; his last 4 years as an IT manager in the Transport Fleet's Network Control Centre. Frank gained comprehensive knowledge and experience of applying UK law serving as a Police Officer immediately prior to joining the IWF.
