IWF Report success in USA

On November 14th, 2002, the Exploited Child Unit received a CyberTipline report from the UK-based Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) regarding child pornography posted to a Yahoo group. They believed that the person who posted the material was located in the United States.

ECU Analysts confirmed that the group contained many illegal images. ECU Analysts then located numerous postings sent to the group containing multiple images as well as movies of child pornography which were posted by the same suspect. Also posted by this suspect were text messages offering illegal images for trade. After running various Internet searches and determining the suspect was using a nationwide Internet Service Provider out of New Jersey, the report was sent to the New Jersey State Police High Tech Crimes Unit, which serves as a satellite Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (funded by OJJDP).

Law enforcement obtained a search warrant for the local Internet Service Provider and determined the subscriber information for the online account. On January 8th, 2003, the New Jersey State Police executed a search warrant at the suspect's residence. A preliminary search of the suspect's computer found numerous images of child pornography. The suspect was arrested and admitted to police he viewed, downloaded and posted images of child pornography.

The suspect, a 22 year old Keen University student, is expected to be charged with one count Possession and Distribution of Child Pornography and one count Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The suspect is currently in jail awaiting trial.
