Senior academic jailed under Operation Ore

Professor Ian Coates Morrison, 57, a Pro-Vice-Chancellor at Loughborough University and a former New Statesman journalist was jailed for nine months on Friday 30th May at Nottingham Crown Court.

Coates Morrison was picked up during the Operation Ore inquiry into credit card records of people who paid to gain access to child porn websites. He admitted to having thousands of child porm images on his computer.

The court heard that when officers raided his home they found images of children as young as five. Coates Morrison admitted 14 counts of making and possessing indecent photographs and two charges of publishing indecent articles, he will be registered as a sex offender for ten years.

Judge Richard Inglis said that it was a "tragic day" for the Oxford graduate but also pointed out "this is not a victimless crime, real children have their lives ruined".
