Outside of our remit
The role and remit of the IWF is very specific.
We operate strictly within the UK law and deal only with illegal online content, not suspects.
The following issues are outside of our remit and therefore we are unable to assist with enquiries relating to them:
- Grooming
- Chat rooms
- Spam, other than child abuse spams
- Peer to Peer
- Financial scams: 'phishing',fraud, emails from banks
- Lottery scams
- Complaints about online auctions
- Legal pornography
- Suicide websites
- Bomb making websites
- Instant Messaging
For further information and references on how to deal with these problems or which organisations to speak to, please see our Public FAQs.
To clarify, unless it is, claims to be, or refers to, potentially illegal content, then we cannot take the matter further unless there is a real risk of harm to someone.
The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) runs a website that will consider Internet Messaging and Chat room abuse. Please contact CEOP if you feel that you need to make a report on these issues.
