Sir Rodney Brooke CBE

Sir Rodney Brooke CBE was appointed a non-industry Board member in August 2007.Sir Rodney Brooke
 
In 2001 he became the first permanent Chairman of the General Social Care Council, which regulates social workers and those working in social care. He is a member of the National Advisory Group on Healthcare Professional Regulation and sits as an observer on the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence.
 
Sir Rodney is Chairman of the Dolphin Square Trust and the Independent Panel for Remuneration of Councillors in London, a trustee of the Dolphin Square Charitable Foundation and of the Tavistock Institute, a member of the Council of the Centre for Regulated Industries, an Honorary Fellow at the Institute of Public Policy at Birmingham University and a member of the National Information Governance Board for Health and Social Care Records. He chaired the Commission on Governance in the Third Sector.
 
A solicitor by profession, his first career was in local government, where he was Chief Executive of West Yorkshire County Council and the City of Westminster Council. He was Chief Executive of the Association of Metropolitan Authorities from 1990 until its merger with the Local Government Association in 1997.
 
He has been the Chairman of the Bradford District Health Authority and the National Electricity Consumers' Council, a member of the Council of University College Hospital, and a non-executive director of the Riverside Health Authority and the Westminster Primary Care Trust. He was Chairman of the Governors of Pimlico School, a trustee of the Community Development Foundation and a member of the Accountancy Ethical Standards Board. He chaired the Commission on Accessible Transport in London and the London Grants Review Board.
 
He has written widely on public policy and ethics and has advised the Governments of China, Colombia, the Gambia, Guyana, Hungary, Poland and Russia.
 
He was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London in 1989 and a Commander of the British Empire in 1996. He was knighted in 2007.
